WEEK 1 (4TH SEPTEMBER - 9TH SEPTEMBER)

 HELLO! HELLO!

Assalamualaikum and hi everyone! My name is Balqis binti Zaiedi and this is my first entry of my practicum experience. After waiting so long for this day, the wait is finally has come to an end. I am supposed to start my practicum in August but due to some circumstances, my practicum has been delayed to 4th September 2023. The first step is always the hardest. I was very nervous on the first day since I was not going to do my practicum with any of my friends or classmates. I walked into the office alone that morning feeling nervous and anxious. Since this is my first time going to a real school and teaching real kids, I have a lot of things going on in my mind. A lot of questions keep lingering inside my head and I don’t know what to expect. In my first week, I did nothing but greet the teachers and make new friends. I walked around the school to see the classes, toilets, fields, etc.

On 7th September 2023, I finally entered my first class! I have mixed feelings. Whether to be happy or nervous. It is not an English class; it is only a 30-minute relief class. I entered 4 Alfa with a smile, but little did they know my heart was beating fast. I feel like it could burst and explode! We had so much fun during the class. We played charades, riddles, and a little talking. The kids are talkative and hyperactive. Of course! It is my first time and I don’t know how to handle the class. But after quite some time, the kids behaved well and listened to me. They got a lot of questions for me. Yeah, I lost my voice that day. I got a sore throat and rethinking about how the other teachers in this world could do this every day?! The teachers are great! Respect them!

On 8th September 2023, my school held a teacher-parents meeting. I was not involved in that event since I am still new. I only observe around the school and get to know the school better. So, basically, my first week was only to walk around and observe things. I am not doing much on my first week but I did learn one or a few things.

Next, on my 9th September 2023, it was on Saturday. Yes! It was supposed to be an off day but we got ‘gotong-royong’ at school. The practicum teachers were assigned to conduct aerobics. God! I thought it was going to be a disaster but hey! It was fun. I enjoy every bit of the moment. We did five songs and the kids and the parents seemed to enjoy the aerobics session. I felt relieved and glad at the same time. After the aerobic session in the morning, we finally started the ‘gotong-royong’ session with the parents. We cleaned every class and the whole school. I was assigned to bring a few pupils with me to pick up rubbish from every corner of the school. It was tiring yet so fun.

 Oh, also on my first week, I got my school’s mentor named Puan Suharni. Alhamdulillah Puan Suharni or I called her Kak Sue has been helping me since day one. She said that if I have any difficulties or problems related to school, I can freely ask her. It was such a blessing. I also met the headmistress on my second day at school. She told us what to do and what to avoid to do. She also gave us some tips on how to handle the pupils and how to behave in school. Everything that she said, I kept in mind. I need to ace this practicum. Pray for me!

  HELLO! HELLO! Welcome to my week 13! Which means I still have another week to survive from practicum! I am so excited to finish practicum but also sad at the same time because I need to leave these precious kids. I didn’t expect to have such a great time with them! they treated me with love and the class was so fun. I also got a few small gifts from them. I will keep it with me forever. I received their gifts with open heart. Next, on 28 th November 2023, Massimo came to our school. Everyone got 3 bread each including teachers and pupils. But, I got 7 breads on that day. Why? WEEK 3 (18TH SEPTEMBER - 23RD SEPTEMBER)

  HELLO! HELLO! Welcome to my third week of practicum! Huh, almost a month just in the blink of an eye. Many things happened in week 3. Very hectic and busy week for teachers and pupils. Let’s start with 18 th September. On this day, we had a closing ceremony for Independence Month. All of us teachers and pupils need to wear traditional clothes that weren’t our culture. As for me, I wore Kurti, an Indian traditional clothing. It was my first time wearing it and I think that I would wear Kurti again on any other day. Mine was so pretty at an affordable price. I bought it online since the physical store seems to be a lot more expensive and pricey. On that day, I saw a lot of kids wearing many types of traditional clothes. When I was a kid, I never had a chance to wear like this, so it was exciting to see those cute faces wearing various types of traditional clothes.
